York Performance provides its members with the best coaching and training in a class based setting. We aim to make everyone feel welcome, train safely, enjoy their training, feel supported, stay motivated and empowered to reach their goals.
WHAT IS CrossFit?
“High intensity functional fitness carried out across broad time and modal domains”
In other words 365 days a year we carry out 365 different workouts. Every day is different, every day is challenging and every day is designed to improve your fitness. Our workouts are a blend of three different disciplines:
METCON, WEIGHT LIFTING & GYMNASTICS.
One day might be all three disciplines, a blend of two or solely one. The continually varied nature means you never get bored and because CrossFit is so diverse the members gain significant improvements in their overall fitness levels, as well as their strength levels.
CrossFit workouts are designed to be short, sweet, and scalable to any fitness level. CrossFitters recognise that not everyone is an elite athlete. So Whether you are an elite athlete or a beginner you can train together in the same group just different versions of the workout. Everyone is welcome in our community. All a person needs is a little coaching, determination, dedication, and heart. With these ingredients, CrossFit can help anyone reach their fitness goals!
Barbell club
In our Barbell class you can expect to receive extremely specific technical feedback as you work to refine and improve your capacity and the quality of your movement one repetition at a time in the main lifts which are Snatch and Clean & jerk. Sessions will also include accessory Movements and strength development exercises to shore up individual weaknesses. Our Weightlifting classes are programmed and coached by our British Weightlifting and Burgener Strength Certified Coaching Staff.
CrossFit
Our CrossFit classes comprise of a group warm-up followed by a skill or strength portion that places an emphasis on building strength, increasing mobility and flexibility and learning proper safety techniques while working out.
The second half of the class consists of the Workout of the Day (WOD) which is a time or task based activity consisting of multiple combinations of exercise that challenge every aspect of your physical fitness capability.
While it pushes each individual to their limits – we offer various modifications/scaled versions of the same movements, which allows our CrossFit classes to be suitable for everyone, from beginners to Elite athletes all in the one class.
Aerobic Capacity Training
Our Aerobic Capacity Training Sessions will focus on the specifics of rowing, air bike, Skiing and running protocols mixed in with various bodyweight movements to help you create a more robust and efficient cardiovascular system.
Improving your aerobic endurance will improve your body’s capability of meeting higher demands for oxygen during intense exercise. Build your engine. Improve your ability to recover.
Team WOD
Our Team WOD session is a workout designed with two or more people in a team. Partners can be paired either male/female or both of the same sex. The workout can consist of two exercises or more. Partner WODs are what makes CrossFit so unique. You can jump into a workout with your best pal (or worst enemy) and get a seriously good calorie burner from the class. No other sport or activity offers something quite like a Team WOD.
Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner to go with as we sort that out for you. Best workout of the week!
Hyrox
Hyrox is a global fitness race that aims to provide a new challenge for gym enthusiasts. The race combines functional strength training, high intensity interval training (HIIT) and endurance training, allowing it to test well-rounded fitness in a way that hasn’t previously been done
Hyrox is low skill and high reward in regards of what you can achieve, its fitness for everyone.
In every Hyrox class we aim to increase our fitness and strength levels to prepare our members for an official Hyrox race.
The Movements include in a Hyrox race is The SkiErg, Sled Push, Sled Pull, Burpee Broad Jumps, Rowing, Farmer walks, Sandbag Lunges, Wall Balls & running.

“Prior to commencing on the 6 week beginner programme at York performance I attended many classes such as spin or circuits for several years. My motivation to exercise was lacking. I missed many a class. Initially I thought I wouldn’t be fit enough to attend classes at York performance however I was very wrong! Jonny is excellent at recognising individual fitness levels and guides us in ensuring correct technique is used to get the best out of each class! For years I was doing a simple squat wrong unto Jonny showed me correct way! Jonny’s classes are different every time, I never get bored and my motivation to exercise has soared! So much so that I am continuing the 6 week beginner programme for a third time!! I can’t believe how my body shape has changed even after the first 6 weeks!! I can’t recommend this enough!!
